Callahan is a town in Nassau County, Florida, United States, adjacent to Duval County.
In 1856, the Florida Railroad was built, and it passed through the area, marking the beginnings of Callahan and the first depot. Then, in 1881, the Savannah, Florida, and Western Railroad extended its tracks from Waycross, running through Callahan all the way to Jacksonville. This expansion led to the construction of a new freight depot on the opposite side of the tracks from the original depot. These two rail lines played a dual role, with the old depot serving passengers and the new one handling freight.
Sometime after 1911, an unfortunate fire destroyed the original depot. However, the two rail lines decided to consolidate their local facilities. They expanded the 1880s structure by adding a ground-level passenger area and a clerk’s office. This modification resulted in the depot now known as The Callahan Depot.

The Battle of Alligator Bridge took place around Callahan on June 30, 1778, and was the only major engagement in an unsuccessful campaign to conquer British East Florida during the American Revolutionary War.
